All Destin beaches remain open. The recent east winds have been favorable for the Destin area and any impact has been very light. The oil impacts to Destin beaches continue to include scattered incidents of small pea to quarter sized tar balls. Crews are dispatched and working to keep our beaches open and clean. Conditions can change daily depending on wind, currents and tides.
Daily reconnaissance vessels continually check for oil (weather permitting) in nearshore and offshore Gulf waters in an effort to keep oil off the beach.

Destin, FL Oil spill update-July 2nd, 2010
Beach at James Lee Park also known as the Crab Trap was clear of tar balls this morning. It appears to be a “spotty” occurrence with some tar balls at Henderson beach and also towards the east. The strong sout winds didn’t push as much of the oil sheen that was feared onto the beaches but the fact remains that it is still out there and can shift at any minute.
